Mahjong for everyone

Hello!

Brigid Nelson founded Rivertowns Mahjong, and if you ask her nicely, she'll admit that she was the kid who obsessively loved games growing up. When she learned American mahjong in 2014, she was immediately hooked. The complexity, symmetry, and challenge of it felt like finding her "forever game."

Brigid teaches from a simple philosophy: there are no stupid questions. Mahjong is complicated and takes time to master, but the little nuances are what makes it fun. At her events, you'll find a supportive environment where we laugh while we learn, build community, and get to know one another.

By day, Brigid is the founder and creative director of LetterShop, a branding agency working with B2B technology businesses. By night and on weekends, she runs mahjong events from the LetterShop office at Hudson River Landing in Dobbs Ferry.

She's also available for private lessons. Brigid comes to your home with a small group (up to five people), walks you through the history of the game, and gives you personalized instruction over two three-hour sessions. You'll leave confident organizing your own game. Materials are included: American mahjong cards and cheat sheet are yours’ to keep and Brigid brings the mahjong set.
