Ready to learn the art of American Mahjong? Spread across two weekends, this course gives you the time and space to absorb the game. Each three-hour session is hands-on at the table, so you're learning by doing rather than just watching. With only eight students total, two tables, and two instructors, you'll get plenty of individualized attention throughout.
Brigid and Kasumi will guide you through everything you need to get started: the tiles and what they mean, how to build and read a hand, the rhythm of drawing and discarding, how to call tiles, and the basics of the NMJL card. By the end, you'll understand how a full game is played and have the confidence to sit down at a table and hold your own.
Sessions are designed to build on each other, so we ask that you plan to attend both sessions. Come ready to play, ask lots of questions, and have fun. The fee includes both lessons and an official standard-sized 2026 National Mah Jongg League card. There will be yummy snacks to keep you fortified as you learn!
