These sessions are geared toward players who know how to play without a great deal of guidance. Experienced beginners are welcome!

You may be playing at table with two or three people if players are slow to arrive or if we don’t have an even four. Bring your 2026 National Mah Jongg card.

We are located at Hudson River Landing, LetterShop Office, 145 Palisade St, Suite 214, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522. There will be signage outside the building to help guide you in, and there is plenty of parking available. If you enter through the front door, you go straight down the hallway right in front of you and turn left. We are on the same level as Hudco but we are not in the Hudco space.

Registration is necessary in order to participate. After you complete the form that comes up after you place your order, you will be taken to a payment page. Even though this event is free, you will need to complete that step in order to be fully registered.

Ready to take your game to the next level? This afternoon of mahjong is designed for players who know the basics and are ready to dig a little deeper.

We're keeping this group intentionally small so we can move around the room, answer questions, and offer guidance on gameplay and strategy throughout the afternoon. Expect a relaxed, supportive atmosphere where no question is too small. Meet fellow mahjong lovers so you can set up games on your own. This event is about building community.

We will have a hand of the day if you want to challenge yourself and win a prize!

Whether you’re still getting comfortable reading the 2026 NMJL card, want to sharpen your calling instincts, or just want more table-time with friendly faces nearby, this is the afternoon for you. We’ll have tasty treats to keep you fortified as you play!

Check-in starts at 1:45PM. Seats will be assigned and play begins once your table is seated. If you'd like to sit with friends during the first half, let us know in the notes section of the form.

Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22

Ready to learn the art of American Mahjong? Spread across one weekend, this course gives you the time and space to absorb the game. Each three-hour session is hands-on at the table, so you're learning by doing rather than just watching. With only four students total, you'll get plenty of individualized attention throughout.

Brigid will guide you through everything you need to get started: the tiles and what they mean, how to build and read a hand, the rhythm of drawing and discarding, how to call tiles, and the basics of the NMJL card. By the end, you'll understand how a full game is played and have the confidence to sit down at a table and hold your own.

Sessions are designed to build on each other, so we ask that you plan to attend both sessions. Come ready to play, ask lots of questions, and have fun.

• Both lessons in the LetterShop office in the Hudson River Landing building

• The official 2026 National Mah Jongg League card

• Yummy snacks to keep you fortified as you learn!

Saturday, December 12

Twelve represents completion and good fortune. A full cycle. A circle. It's fitting for the afternoon of December 12 that we come together to build connection. This will be an afternoon for experienced players to play at a solid pace with others who know their tiles. We'll start with quick strategy tips, then move straight into gameplay. At the midpoint we'll rotate tables so you can play with different people and build connections for games down the road.

Challenge yourself with our hand of the day for a chance to win a prize. We'll have yummy snacks and drinks throughout the afternoon.
